Household appliance safety
INMETRO's compulsory certification for household and similar electrical appliances.
- INMETRO Portaria 200/2021, general conformity assessment requirements (RGCP)
- Law 9.933/1999, Conmetro and INMETRO
- Portaria 148 of 28 March 2022 regulates household and similar appliances and sets the safety requirements to be met through certification (INMETRO FAQ).
- Table 1 of its Annex III lists the appliances in scope, such as vacuum cleaners, irons, dishwashers, cookers and ovens; products with a similar function under another name, and products not for normal household use that can endanger the public, are also certified.
- Table 2 lists exclusions, including audio and video equipment under IEC 60065 and appliances that are exclusively class III (safety extra-low voltage), except class III appliances with batteries recharged on a charging base.
- Portaria 148/2022 does not require registration with INMETRO.
- Importers import and supply only products certified under Portaria 148/2022, and conformity is shown by the seal on the product and its pack.
